Applications of magnetooptical waveguides in integrated optics
Magnetooptical garnets combine high Faraday rotation with low optical losses in the near infrared region where optical communication via glass fiber is established. In this spectral range garnets are the only materials discussed to realize nonreciprocal devices as optical isolators and circulators. Although such devices are available as microoptical components, practical versions of their integ...
متن کاملBragg reflection waveguides with a matching layer.
It is demonstrated that Bragg reflection waveguides, either planar or cylindrical, can be designed to support a symmetric mode with a specified core field distribution, by adjusting the first layer width. Analytic expressions are given for this matching layer, which matches between the electromagnetic field in the core, and a Bragg mirror optimally designed for the mode. This adjustment may cha...
متن کاملQuadratic phase matching in slot waveguides.
We analyze phase matching with reference to frequency doubling in nanosized quadratic waveguides encompassing form birefringence and supporting cross-polarized fundamental and second-harmonic modes. In an AlGaAs rod with an air void, we show that phase-matched second-harmonic generation could be achieved in a wide spectral range employing state-of-the-art nanotechnology.
متن کاملSupercontinuum generation in quadratic nonlinear waveguides without quasi-phase matching.
Supercontinuum generation (SCG) is most efficient when the solitons can be excited directly at the pump laser wavelength. Quadratic nonlinear waveguides may induce an effective negative Kerr nonlinearity, so temporal solitons can be directly generated in the normal (positive) dispersion regime overlapping with common ultrafast laser wavelengths. There is no need for waveguide dispersion enginee...
متن کاملQuadratic phase matching in nonlinear plasmonic nanoscale waveguides.
We analyze phase matching in metal-dielectric nonlinear structures which support highly localized plasmon polariton modes. We reveal that quadratic phase matching between the plasmon modes of different symmetries becomes possible in planar waveguide geometries. We discuss the example of a nonlinear LiNbO(3) waveguide sandwiched between two silver plates, and demonstrate that second-harmonic gen...
